Staff changes at the Rosenergoatom Concern

Pursuant to the resolution of Andrey Petrov, the Rosenergoatom Concern, Victor Ignatov*, the deputy CEO and the director of the Rosenergoatom affiliate Balakovo NPP, was appointed the deputy CEO and the director of the Rosenergoatom affiliate Kalinin NPP.

The former Kalinin NPP director, Mikhail Kanyshev, was released from his position due to the decline in the safety culture identified during the NPP operations. This June, during the maintenance works at the electric equipment of the Kalinin NPP, a short circuit happened, as a result of which two NPP employees were injured, and one of them died shortly.

Valeriy Bessonov**, the former Balakovo NPP chief engineer, was appointed the deputy CEO and the director of the Rosenergoatom affiliate Balakovo NPP.

The Balakovo NPP is an acknowledged leader in the Russian nuclear power industry, the top enterprise of the “Electric power” division. The company boasts multiple “Best Russian NPP” awards (as a result of its operations in 1995, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2005-2009, 2011-2013, 2014). According to its output in 2015, it was announced to be the best Russian NPP in terms of the safety culture. It has also received 8 awards as “The Russian environment protection leader” and 10 prizes at the regional job safety competition. In 2015, it won the “The nuclear power environmental security showcase” competition. That year, the Balakovo NPP accounted for 16.8% of the whole Rosenergoatom’s electric power output (32,748 million kilowatt-hours). In 2016, the Balakovo NPP became the winner of “The collective employment agreement as a basis for the social and employment rights protection” competition in the “Best collective employment agreement at the manufacturing companies” nomination (within the group of companies with the year-end average staff number of over 500 people).



*Victor Igorevich Ignatov was born in 1951. Has graduated from the Tomsk Polytechnic University. Holds a Ph.D degree in Science. During the period of 1976 – 1981, used to work as a special building operator, an engineer, and a senior engineer of the Kolsk NPP reactor department. In 1981-1986, he used to be a head of shift at the reactor workshop, a deputy head of reactor workshop operations, and a head of the reactor workshop at the South-Ukrainian NPP. In 1986-1990, he was the deputy chief engineer of the Khmelnitsky NPP 1st and the 2nd power blocks’ operations. In 1990-2005, he worked as the Balakovo NPP chief engineer. Since 2005 and up to July 24, 2016, he worked as the deputy CEO and the director of the Rosenergoatom affiliate Balakovo NPP. On July 25, 2016, he was appointed as the deputy CEO and the director of the Rosenergoatom affiliate Kalinin NPP. Holds the Order of Peoples' Friendship (1994), the 2nd stage medal of the “For Merit to the Fatherland” Order (2001), the Russian Government science and technology award (2002). One of the most long-service employees of the nuclear power industry. Holds multiple badges of merit, testimonials, and honorary certificates. The winner of the national annual “The best manager of the year” award (2011).



** Valeriy Nikolaevich Bessonov was born in 1958. Has graduated from the Tomsk Polytechnic University. During the period of 1980-1983, he used to work as an engineer at the Novovoronezh NPP. In 1983-1987, he was a software engineer at NovovoronezhAtomEnergoNaladka. In 1987-2001, he used to be a head of shift, subsequently holding positions of the deputy head of operational workshop, the Acting head of the workshop, and the head of the Balakovo reactor workshop No. 2. In 2001-2009, he worked as the deputy chief engineer of the Balakovo NPP 3rd and 4th power blocks’ operation. Since 2009, he has been the Balakovo NPP chief engineer. An honored power engineer of the Russian Federation (1994), holds multiple testimonials, medals, honorary certificates, badges of merit, titles, and diplomas. One of the most long-service employees of the nuclear power industry, a labor veteran (2008). Holds a 3rd stage badge “For Merit to the Nuclear Power Industry” (2013) and a testimonial from the Saratov Region Industry and Energy Ministry (2015).

The Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC comprises all 10 nuclear power plants in Russia bearing the Concern affiliate status, as well as the enterprises catering for the generating company’s operations. There are 35 power blocks being used at the 10 nuclear power plants: 18 of them having VVER-type reactor units (12 VVER-1000 power blocks and 6 VVER-440 blocks of different modifications); 15 of them having channel-type reactors (11 power blocks with RBMK-1000 reactors and 4 blocks with EGP-6 reactors); 2 power blocks with BN-600 and BN-800 sodium-cooled fast reactors.

At the moment, the Rosenergoatom NPPs account for 18.6% of the whole electricity output in the country.
