Smolensk NPP: the meeting, dedicated to the 25th Chernobyl NPP anniversary took place

The meeting, dedicated to the 25th Chernobyl NPP anniversary (Ukraine) was held in Smolensk atomists’ city, Desnogorsk, on April 26, 2011. 

More than 300 citizens of Desnogorsk city took part in that meeting - the Chernobyl NPP accident consequences liquidators and their families’ members, representatives of the city administration and SNPP management, as well as city school teachers and scholars.

Chairman of Soyuz Chernobyl Public Organization Lyudmila Kameneva made a note of Desnogorsk citizens’ dedication in the course of the emergency consequences’ elimination, in which more than 1,000 of Smolensk NPP and other city organizations employees had taken part. “The most important thing in our world is when each man has moral and ethic core, which does not allow performing acts that can be harmful for other people. Only having such core the mankind may prevent such catastrophes”, she said.

“More than 600 thousand people took part in Chernobyl NPP accident consequences elimination. Unfortunately, some of them are not longer with us. We must not forget these people”, Smolensk NPP Deputy Chief Engineer, the post-accident clean-up participant Vladimir Zacharenkov underlined.

The meeting participants paid tribute to the Chernobyl human wreck by a one-minute silence.

Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Every year SNPP supplies to the country electric power system at the average about 20 bln kilowatt-hours of electric power equal to almost 13% of power generated in Rosenergoatom Concern and to more than 80% of that generated by the power plants of Smolensk region.
