On May 19, 2011, Public Information Centre of Smolensk NPP held an annual ecological scientific and practical conference of Desnogorsk teachers and schoolchildren “Smolensk NPP – Region Ecology”.

The results of work in the field of growing generation ecologic education conducted in Smolensk NPP satellite cities in 2010-2011 academic years were summarized. The teachers shared their experience, told each other about new methodological developments, the pupils presented their reports about their scientific and research activity in the spheres of ecology and environmental protection in the region of the nuclear plant location.

Deputy Head of Public Information Centre Eugenia Prishletsova congratulated all the gathered people with Smolensk NPP receiving the title of “The Best Russian NPP on the Working Results of 2010”. She noted Smolensk teachers’ contribution into this achievement of the nuclear plant, because at present one third of the plant employees were former pupils of Desnogorsk schools; she also underlined the importance of the work carried out by the teachers in the field of ecological education, forming the future Smolensk atomists’ ecologic world view. 

The authors of the best projects of the year presented their works at the conference. A younger teacher of a Desnogorsk school, its former school leaver Pavel Romanenko made a presentation of an open educative event in Biology aimed at creating of the pupils’ world view assurance in the necessity of active attitude towards life safety. Such approach realizes spiritual and moral potential of biology within the framework of creation of pupils’ scientific world view.

Pupil of Desnogorsk School Michail Shumilin presented the project called “Atomic city”, where his thought of the future NPP cities satellites were reflected. This project became the laureate of the contest “Power of the Future Generation”, organized by Rosatom State Corporation. In his presentation Dmitry Golikov, a pupil of school No. 4, was speaking of the city of Smolensk atomists Desnogorsk, its history and future.

After the conference had been over, the teachers and pupils received diplomas for active participation in ecologic work, valuable prizes and presents from Smolensk NPP. The plant veterans received diplomas and presents for their feasible contribution into ecologic education.
