Smolensk NPP: an international seminar on the project “Human Factor Management” has been held

On May 16-20, 2011 seminar on the project “Human Factor Management, organized within the framework of the international program on nuclear safety and carried out by the Commission of European Committees, was held at Smolensk NPP.

The project started at the nuclear plant at the end of 2010 and its realization will be finished in 2012. The purpose of the program under consideration is to teach the methods of mistakes able to affect the safety prevention to the personnel.

Expert of a Finnish company Josef Kolliver conducted the seminar for the plant shift supervisors and the heads of subdivisions. He noted: “The work of a specialist consists of two parts – interrelation inside the group and the work with sophisticated technologies. As world practice shows, about 23% equipment failures happen for technical reasons and their most part happen because of the personnel faults. In order to prevent mistakes it is necessary to teach the staff to interrelate with each other. There are special methods for it”.

According to the words of Smolensk NPP Repair Service Deputy Head Vladimir Volondin, supervising the project at the nuclear plant, the process of the development of methodological recommendations for the instruments of human mistakes preventions practical use is going simultaneously with the staff of different levels training.
