Smolensk NPP: a new training and laboratory building has been opened

A new training and laboratory building of the educational and training division has been opened at Smolensk NPP for education and advanced training of the plant maintenance personnel.

At the solemn opening ceremony a commission headed by Director of the plant Andrey Petrov signed the training building commissioning certificate.

Substantial material and technical foundation and a wide range of educational services of the new centre will ensure the high level of education for specialists in repair of reactor and turbine equipment, measurement devices and automatics, replacement of assembly channels, pneumatic electric tools handling and welding. The training will start in the middle of summer.

To ensure acquisition and development of special skills of the workers training and mechanical workshops are equipped with stands, simulators, models and real equipment samples. Special consideration has been provided to development of the personnel’s adherence to the safety culture principles. The Examiner automated system will be the aid in checking of the knowledge acquired.

“The maintenance personnel must study not only at desk, but using real samples of equipment”, Deputy Chief Engineer – Head of the educational and training division of Smolensk NPP Oleg Sarayev is sure. “The one who works with hands, must “study with hands”. The new training building will make it possible to maintain a high level of the workers’ qualification, to constantly improve their skills, as well as to prepare new professionals”.

Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Every year SNPP supplies to the country electric power system at the average about 20 bln kilowatt-hours of electric power equal to almost 13% of power generated in Rosenergoatom Concern and to more than 80% of that generated by the power plants of Smolensk region.
