Smolensk NPP: Desnogorsk has held public meetings

In the anniversary days of the events at Fukushima NPP specialists of Smolensk NPP hold series of meetings with the public, targeted audience and youth of the city.

At these meetings they talked about prospects of nuclear power engineering and Smolensk NPP development, and also on additional measures on radiation security enhancement, undertaken at nuclear power plants of Russia.  

At schools of Desnogorsk, a city of nuclear scientists, there passed environmental knowledge lessons for senior students, where scientists told about advantages of nuclear power engineering, its security, efficiency and sustainability.  

After the events at Fukushima nuclear power plant in 2011, Smolensk NPP held public compliance assessments, in which representatives of mass media, authorities, deputy corps, educational, medical and cultural bodies of the region of the nuclear power plant location participated.

In December 2012 Smolensk NPP will celebrate its 30th anniversary since the date of start-up of the first power unit. For all the years of operation Smolensk NPP produced more than 510 billion kWh of electric power. Radiation background in the surveillance area of the nuclear power plant has never been violated and never exceeded natural environmental values.


Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Annually SNPP provides the country power system at an average of about 20 billion kWh of electrical power, which makes about 13% of energy produced by Rosenergoatom Concern and more than 80% produced by the power enterprises of the Smolensk Region.
