Smolensk NPP: Desnogorsk Carries out Final Stage of Intramural Quiz for School Children
On May 18, 2012 in the conference hall of the Public Information Centre of Smolensk NPP, there has passed the final stage of the quiz for school children of the 6th-7th forms of Desnogorsk schools, which was called “Smolensk NPP: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” timed to the 30th anniversary since the day of startup of the first unit of Smolensk NPP, and the 20th anniversary of Rosenergoatom Concern.
The extramural stage attended by more than a hundred of students, was held in March-April 2012 and found ten winners of the preliminary round.
In the intramural stage they were asked to answer 10 questions about Smolensk NPP, Desnogorsk and nuclear power engineering of Russia. During the preparation for the quiz many school children were helped by their parents, who worked at the nuclear power plant.
Summing up the competition, a teacher of the secondary school No.1 of Desnogorsk Irina Dyukareva noted: “Our school children always enthusiastically participate in competitions, quizzes, academic competitions, exhibitions carried out by Smolensk NPP. This does not only widen their knowledge on the nuclear subject, but also contributes to the development of creative activity and patriotic education of the young generation. In addition, the process of the preparation of joint activities of children and parents helps to strengthen the family and the ties between the generations.”
The winners of the quiz were the pupils of School 1: the first prize went to Kidalova Tatyana, the second was won by Zalevskaya Yana, and the third prize went to Nikishina Dariya. They received certificates and prizes with the symbol of Smolensk NPP.
Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Annually SNPP provides the country power system at an average of about 20 billion kWh of electrical power, which makes about 13% of energy produced by Rosenergoatom Concern and more than 80% produced by the power enterprises of the Smolensk Region.
