Smolensk NPP has summed up the English language competition among school students

On April 5, 2012 there was summed up the English language competition among school students, which took place in Desnogorsk under the project The School of Rosatom.

In the milestone for all the Desnogorsk citizens year, marked with the 30th anniversary of Smolensk NPP and the 20th anniversary of Rosenergoatom Concern, there is one more date, which is a bright page of the Smolensk region history – the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812. The held competition My Small Motherland was dedicated to the topic of the Smolensk region heroic past.

The participants were asked to tell in English about the events, which had taken place in the Smolensk region during the Patriotic War of 1812, showing at this their erudition, language skills, and knowledge in computer technologies. Particular attention was paid to the depth of topics’ disclosure, research nature, consistency of presentation, wealth of information, distinction in information presentation, and diverse vocabulary proficiency.

The jury, consisting of experts of the department of international and foreign economic cooperation of SNPP, Education Committee of Desnogorsk and teachers of English of the city schools, assessed a variety of creative genre compositions of the competition participants.  Literary works and creative projects differed in originality and clearness.

Summing up the results of the competition, the jury noted an excellent level of training of the participants. “Without exception, all the students showed good skills in English, knowledge in history of native land, and ability to work with information sources,” noted Marina Lyalikova, an interpreter of SNPP, “it can be noticed that they have been preparing themselves with full dedication and have imported a part of their soles into the work.”

The authors of 15 best works were awarded with diplomas and valuable prizes from Rosatom State Corporation.

In 2011 the competition My Small Motherland, organized annually by the Desnogorsk Education Committee in cooperation with the methodological association of teachers of English, won The School of Rosatom branch project of the State Corporation. This event was recognized to be an effective tool for revealing and supporting the talented youth of the city and development of creative initiatives of teachers.

Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Annually SNPP provides the country power system at an average of about 20 billion kWh of electric power, which makes about 13% of energy produced by Rosenergoatom Concern and more than 80% produced by the power enterprises of the Smolensk Region.
