Smolensk NPP Successfully Completes Planned Emergency Response Exercise

On May 29, 2012 Smolensk NPP completed the planned emergency response exercise to test the actions of the personnel in emergency situation.

It was attended by the specialists of SNPP, team of emergency assistance to nuclear power plants (OPAS), representatives of Rosenergoatom Concern, Emergency Centre and other organizations responsible for the safety of nuclear facilities and environment protection.

The key objective of the training was to check the existing emergency planning system at Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, exercising the personnel to prevent unwanted development of a hypothetical accident, and interaction between the participants of the emergency response.

According to the head of the exercise, a Director of the Department for the Emergency Preparedness and Radiation Protection of Rosenergoatom Concern, Vladimir Khlebtsevich, the participants showed a high level of readiness to act in emergency situations.



Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Annually SNPP provides the country power system at an average of about 20 billion kWh of electrical power, which makes about 13% of energy produced by Rosenergoatom Concern and more than 80% produced by the power enterprises of the Smolensk Region.
