Smolensk NPP Nuclear Engineers Carry Out Series of Events in Honor of Victory Day
In the pre-holiday days the Smolensk nuclear engineers paid a visit to veterans at home, gave them flowers and gifts. And on May 7 in CISO “Neutrino”, there was an opening of a photo exhibition “Faces of the Victory”, held in cooperation with the City Women’s Committee, and the Committee of Soldiers’ Mothers, dedicated to the 67th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The exposition displayed the photographs of the Great Patriotic War veterans of Desnogorsk city, which have become the honorable guests of the exhibition.
At the same day, the management of the Smolensk nuclear power plant invited the veterans to the Palace of “Neutrino” for the dinner party. The invited artists performed before the guests, and sang songs of the war years. Warm kind words, addressed to the victors, sounded in the festive greetings.
On May 9 on the Burial Mound of Glory, there was held a solemn rally. As part of the action “St. George Ribbon”, the members of the youth organization of Smolensk NPP gave the symbol of the Great Victory to all people.
With words of congratulations and deep gratitude for the feat of arms, the Director of Smolensk NPP Andrey Petrov, representatives of the City Administration and City Council of Desnogorsk, Recruitment Office, City Council of Veterans of the Great Patriotic War, and Labour addressed to veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
In memory of battles on the Smolensk land, on the Burial Mound of Glory the athletes finished the traditional field-and-track cross-country run on Koski-Desnogorsk route. The rally finished with laying the wreaths and flowers on the graves of fallen soldiers.
The celebration continued on the city stage, where a concert and fireworks thundered in honor of the Victory Day.
47 participants of the Great Patriotic War, and about 340 homefront workers live nowadays in Desnogorsk. Spearheaded by the Smolensk nuclear power plant Director, since 2008 the staffs of the plant’s departments have taken each veteran of the war under the patronage. The Smolensk nuclear engineers believe that people who gave us peacetime should not remain without attention and support.
Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Annually SNPP provides the country power system at an average of about 20 billion kWh of electrical power, which makes about 13% of energy produced by Rosenergoatom Concern and more than 80% produced by the power enterprises of the Smolensk Region.
