Russian fast reactor technology will be ready for the world market in 10 years
Russian fast reactor technology will be ready for the world market in ten years, ROSATOM Director General Sergey Kirienko has told the 20th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, according to a statement issued by the State Nuclear Corporation.
"The commercial terms will depend on many factors, but technological readiness can and should be achieved by [2025]," Kirienko said, according to Nuclear.Ru.
Noting progress in fast reactor technology at the Beloyarsk nuclear power plant, Kirienko said U-238 - the most common isotope of uranium - could be recognised as a valuable raw material and no longer disposed of as waste.
