Rostov NPP: “Physics. Spring. Cinema.” Children cinema festival has been over

On May 24, 2011 a solemn summarizing of the results of children featurette education films festival called “Physics. Spring. Cinema”, devoted to the 10th anniversary of Rostov NPP first power unit start-up, was held.

Schoolchildren of Volgodonsk city took part in the cinema contest. 19 films, telling about physics laws from the point of view of science and practice and from the position of the children, were submitted to the jury.

The young film-makers’ works were estimated in the three nominations: “Physics for Babies”, “Education Film on Physics” and “Peaceful Atom”.

Rostov NPP became the founder of the cinema festival prizes and each participant received a memory present from the nuclear plant. The winners in “Peaceful Atom” nomination were awarded with special prizes. The work of Julia Galitsina “Spring Day” was acknowledged to be the best. The city technical educational establishment – Volgodonsk Engineering and Technical NRNU MEPI – also awarded the festival participants with its prizes, and the youngest festival participant Daria Ichetkina received a special prize of Russian Journalists Union Volgodonsk branch. She was a co-author of the film “Physics for Little and Curious”.

Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13.5 km far from Volgodonsk city. Rostov NPP operates two reactors of VVER-1000-type. Each reactor has the installed capacity of 1,000 MW. Power units Nos. 3 and 4 are under construction.
