Rostov NPP: upgrade work at evaporative cooling tower begins in the spring 2017

The start of work on the modernization of the vessel internals of the evaporative cooling tower of the power unit No 3 is scheduled for April 2017. This was announced to the regional media journalists by Andrey Gorbunov, Chief engineer of Rostov NPP.


“We are planning to replace cooling tower fillers with more effective ones. Plastic beams will also be replaced with the stainless steel metal beams. The time frame is within 93 days”, Andrey Gorbunov told about the work at the third power unit.
He emphasized that the modernization of the equipment is carried out under the conditions of safe operation of nuclear power plants.

“The works are scheduled, they will not affect the implementation of the electric energy generation annual plan” Sergey Gorbunov added.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
