Rostov NPP: the readiness of starting power unit No 4 turbine is 70 percent

At power unit No 4 under construction of Rostov NPP Volgodonskoe montaznoe upravlenie LLC specialists have built a turbine shaft line; and now they install the bearing pedestals.

“After building the shaft line, we are fitting the turbine bearings and closing the high-pressure cylinder. Fit allowance of bearing assembly makes a few hundredths of a millimeter. All works are in the schedule. Turbine readiness exceeds 70%”, the superintendent of construction of VdMU LLC contractor Dmitriy Mitrokhin described the progress of works at the machine room of power unit No 4 under construction.

The quality of work at the machine room of power unit No 4 under construction is controlled by turbine house engineers of Phase II of Rostov NPP. “The NPP operating personnel and Technical Supervision Department of the Capital Construction Management of Rostov NPP among others checks the quality of the executed work. Incoming equipment control begins with the manufacturer; we supervise the acceptance tests. At the assembly area we monitor all the construction works: main and auxiliary equipment installation, pipe fitting. We check that everything is in compliance with design specifications”, the Deputy Head of the Turbine Department of Phase II of Rostov NPP Yevgeniy Ziyatdinov explains the essence of his work.

Right now there is a turbine with the capacity of 1,100 MW assembled at the Rostov NPP power unit under construction. In May 2017, it must be completely assembled and put on rotor barring. The turbine rotor barring illuminates the readiness of the secondary circuit equipment for energy generation.

The power block No. 4 is planned to be launched in 2017.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
