Rostov NPP: Volgodonsk schoolchildren have visited the nuclear plants’ subdivisions

On May 26, 2011, the active members of “Rostok” Volgodonsk Children Public Ecologic Organization attended a number of Rostov NPP subdivisions.

The children visited LPPP (the laboratory for psychophysical provision), LERSC (the laboratory for external radiation safety control) and ETS (educational and training subdivision).

The acquaintance with the activity of the plant’s subdivisions was held within the framework of the project “Children of Atomic City: from Knowledge to Assurance and Safety”. The project won the public contest among public and non-commercial organizations on development and realization of socially significant projects, held by Rosatom State Corporation on Nuclear Power on the initiative of Rosatom Public Council.

At the full-scale simulator in the Training Center the young ecologists got acquainted with the principles of the NPP’s operation personnel training: in LPPP they learnt the enterprise psychologists’ aims and purposes, in the laboratory for external radiation safety control they saw modern equipment, studied the rules of samples selection and investigation.

“Such detailed acquaintance with the nuclear plant’s subdivision work allows the children not only receive new knowledge, but also contributes to the formation of new objective evaluation of the nuclear plant activity, the project participants’ insurance in the NPP safe operation”, Highest Category Teacher, Project Leader Elena Podolskaya noted.

“Rostok” has been dealing with the involvement of schoolchildren into the activity on revealing and solution of ecologic problems of a modern city for 15 years already. The project “Children of Atomic City: from Knowledge to Assurance and Safety”, realized by young ecologists, is unique because the work on the ecologic information and education of the basic target group – children of 9-12 is carried out by “Rostok” DGOO, which is engaged in the training and together with the teachers holds the events within the framework of the educational program.
