Rostov NPP: Vice-Governor of Rostov region Sergey Gorban has given a high evaluation to the plant safety level

On April 9, 2011 First Deputy Administration Head of Rostov region Sergey Gorban paid his first information visit to Rostov NPP. He was accompanied by Mayor of Volgodonsk city Victor Firsov.

The Vice-Governor and Volgodonsk Mayor were guided through the nuclear power plant by Director of Rostov NPP Alexander Palamarchuk. The guests visited the unit control room and turbine island of power unit ? 2 and examined the construction site of power units Nos. 3 and 4.

Sergey Gorban gave a high evaluation to the level of corporate culture and security assurance at the NPP and said: “I am impressed. This is a huge knowledge-intensive facility, equipped with unique technologies and appliances. It employs competent and responsible people, which ensure the highest degree of facility safety. Of course, today everyone is alarmed by the events in Japan, but we are aware that the equipment and security systems of Rostov NPP represent the next generation and are at the highest level”.

Vice Governor emphasized the role of Rostov NPP in the economy and energy security of the region, area and country: “This is a stable enterprise that has not only managed to maintain its positions during the crisis, but has also helped others to survive. A nuclear power plant means enormous funds for the region, area and the entire Russia in the form of investments and taxes”.

Deputies of Rostov region Legislative Assembly and regional mass media are to perform a public inspection of Rostov NPP on April 14.

Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13.5 km far from Volgodonsk city. The plant operates two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with installed capacity of 1,000 MW. Power unit No.1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, power unit No. 2 – in December of 2010. Power units Nos. 3 and 4 are being constructed since 2009.
