Rostov NPP: School graduates have received target referrals to the leading technical higher educational establishments of the country

18 school graduates of Volgodonsk and Volgodonsk district received target referrals to the leading technical higher educational establishments of the country. The winners of the “Olympiad of the Nuclear Plants”, which has been organized by Rosenergoatom Concern for many years, were honoured the referrals.

Owing to their victory in the Olympiad, five graduates of Volgodonsk schools received the right of entering MEPhI National Research Nuclear Institute out-of-competition; three of them – N. E. Bauman Moscow State Technical University, nine former schoolchildren will enter Moscow Energy Institute and one of them – St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University.

The solemn ceremony of the target referrals giving was held in Rostov NPP public information centre. Representatives of the administration and Duma of Volgodonsk, department of education, Rostov NPP, teachers, parents and friends came to congratulate the future students.

The nuclear plant Director Alexander Palamarchuk personally handled the referrals to the higher educational establishments. He wished all the children to return to their native city after the studies are over, and become Rostov NPP employees. “I am very glad to know that new forces and new talents wish to join the staff of our nuclear power plant. Having chosen the profession of an atomist, you choose the road of success in the profession and stability in the promising, highly technological and developing nuclear branch”.

Appealing to the graduates and their parents, Deputy Chairman of Volgodonsk City Duma Ludmila Tkachenko noted the important role of Rosenergoatom Concern and Rostov NPP in the support of young people. “If not for target referrals, the children would suffer much worrying and many difficulties while entering. But owing to the Concern and our nuclear power plant there appeared a wonderful “airbag” – target referrals. This is an opportunity to return to the city and work at Rostov NPP, where you are guaranteed to receive a job”.

The main aims of the “Olympiad of the Nuclear Plants” are revealing of talented young people and their further involvement into the work at nuclear power plants; forming the contingent of the applicants to the higher educational establishments performing the training of nuclear plants specialists; career guiding work and pupils enlightenment on the problems of the nuclear power industry, ecology, prospects of the industry developments, nuclear safety; development of creative abilities with the pupils of secondary education institutions and improving their motivation for physical and mathematical disciplines study.

Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13.5 km far from Volgodonsk city. The nuclear plant has two operating power units of VVER-1000-type reactors with installed capacity of 1000 MW. Power unit No. 1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, power unit No 2 – in December, 2010.
