Rostov NPP: School Leavers Are Receiving Target Assignments to Country’s Leading Technical Universities

On June 21, 2012 fifty two school leavers of Volgodonsk, Rostov-on-Don, and the Volgodonsk and Tsimlyansk districts received the target assignments to enter the leading technical universities of the country. They have become the winners of the “Academic Contest of Nuclear Power Plants”, organized over the years by Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC.



Thanks to winning in the Academic Contest, 26 school leavers have got a right to enter the National Research Nuclear University Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI) and its branches, and 10 pupils – to enter Bauman Moscow State Technical University on sole source. 13 yesterday school leavers will enter Moscow Power Engineering Institute, and by one they will enter Saint-Petersburg State Electrotechnical University, the Russian D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology and Saint-Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation.

The solemn ceremony of disposal of the target assignments has passed in the Information centre of Rostov NPP. Heads of Rostov NPP, Education Administration of Volgodonsk, teachers, parents and friends came to congratulate the future students.

Handing over the assignments, Director of Rostov nuclear power plant, Andrey Salnikov, wished all the school leavers to come back to the native city after graduating form the university and to become employees of Rostov NPP: “We are extremely pleased that such talented, creative and not indifferent people have chosen as their future place of studying the leading technical universities of the country, which are associated with training of professionals for working at nuclear power plants. I wish you to represent our city Volgodonsk worthily, get high grades, and you are welcome to Rostov NPP after graduating from the universities.”

Head of the Education Administration of Volgodonsk, Tatiana Samsonyuk, addressing to the school leavers and their parents, emphasized the important role of Rosenergoatom Concern and Rostov NPP in supporting of the youth: “I wish to thank our social partners in the field of education – Rostov nuclear power plant, the Information Centre of NPP, teaching staff of Volgodonsk Engineering and Technical Institute of NRNU MEPhI and all those, who helped you, boys and girls, to succeed for the future occupation.”

The “Academic Contest of Nuclear Power Plants” of this year has shown that the profession of the nuclear engineer was getting more popular among the youth. Each year the number of participants of the Academic Contest in Volgodonsk is growing: in 2010 it was attended by 50 school leavers, in 2011 – about 100, and this year – 146.
The main goals and tasks of the “Academic Contest of Nuclear Power Plants” are revealing of the talented youth and involving it in the future to work at nuclear power plants; creation of a community of prospective students for universities, training specialists for nuclear power plants; career guidance and education of school students on the problems of the modern power industry, ecology, prospects for future development of the nuclear power generation, nuclear safety; development of creative skills of students of the general education institutions and increasing of their motivation to study physics  and mathematics disciplines.

Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The enterprise is situated on the bank of Tsimlyansk Reservoir at 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. NPP operates two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with the capacity of 1,000 MW. Unit 1 was commissioned in 2001 and Unit 2 – in December 2010.
