Rostov NPP: Leavers of school n.a. Yevgeniy Ignatenko have visited nuclear power plant

On April 4, 2012 students of the 11th form of Noviy Yegorlyk school No.62, named after its famous compatriot, nuclear physicist Yevgeniy Ignatenko, visited Rostov NPP under the events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Rosenergoatom Concern. It was the first visit of school students of that scholastic institution to the nuclear power plant.

With great interest, the boys and girls viewed the nuclear power plant’s construction site and turbine island of the second power unit of Rostov NPP, got acquainted with the operating staff’s work on the main control unit, and then visited the expo center of Information Centre of the nuclear power plant.

“The school students read and heard quite a lot about the operation of Rostov NPP, and now have seen all with their own eyes. Thanks a lot to the front office and experts of the nuclear power plant for the assistance to the school, warm reception at the plant, and detailed excursion and open dialogue. It was very interesting,” told the Director of school No.62 Svetlana Belkina.

In 1992, in the period of creating of Rosenergoatom Concern, Yevgeniy Ignatenko was appointed as Head of the executive direction, then - as the first Vice-President, and from January 1, 1997 – as General Director – Vice-President of the Concern. Nowadays the fund n.a. E.I. Ignatenko, headed by Yevgeniy Ivanovich’s  brother-german Vladimir Ivanovich Ignatenko, implements great work on improvement of the educational quality at schools of Noviy Yegorlyk (village school No.54 is also named after E.I. Ignatenko). During the decade of the fund’s existence, the Concern, Rostov NPP and Atomtechenergo OJSC transferred more than 15 mln rubles for education needs.


Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The enterprise is situated on the bank of Tsimlyansk Reservoir at 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with the capacity of 1000 MW. The power unit No.1 was commissioned in 2001 and the power unit No.2 – in December 2010.
