Rostov NPP: Intellectual Club “Eureka” Sums up Season

On May 22, 2012 this season the Public Information Centre of Rostov NPP held the final meeting of the intellectual club “Eureka”. On the agenda there was carrying out of two games “What? Where? When?”, summing up the spring series and discussing of the plans for the next season.

The meeting began with the intellectual competitions. They were dedicated to the history of the Olympic Games and timed to holding the XXX Olympiad, which will take place this summer in London. By tradition, two teams joined the battle with the virtual competitor: young brainiacs from Lyceum 24 and the picked team of three city schools.



The Expert Council included the Director of Rostov NPP, Deputy of Volgodonsk City Duma Vitaliy Tsukanov and his Deputy for the club, a holder of the badge of honor “Sports Elite” and candidate in masters of sport in Greko-Roman wrestling Igor Taktashev.

The questions concerned not only the history of the Olympic movement, but also the participation of the nuclear industry in it. As a result, the team of Lyceum 24 won with the score 6:5, and the picked team of the city schools showed their best result – 6:3.

The winner’s cup of the spring series of the games went to the team of the Law School. The young brainiacs-grammar school pupils played in the first game of these series and won with the score 6:0. The certificates of club members also were given to the teams of the Centre of Children’s Art, Lyceum 11, phototechnical club of the Station of Young Technicians, and both of the teams competed in the last games.

In the meeting there was approved the idea of the Information Centre for Nuclear Energy (Rostov-on-Don) about carrying out in September of two games “What? Where? When?” dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Rosenergoatom Concern with the participation of the picked teams of Volgodonsk and Rostov, and the proposal of the club founders (the Public Information Centre of Rostov NPP and the Station of Young Technicians) on entering in the games the teams, consisting of representatives of the city enterprises and organizations. At that, the intellectual club “Eureka” said good-bye to its members until the autumn. Like all pupils, it went on summer vacations.  

Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The enterprise is situated on the bank of Tsimlyansk Reservoir at 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. NPP operates two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with the capacity of 1,000 MW. Unit 1 was commissioned in 2001 and Unit 2 – in December 2010. Power Units 3 and 4 are nowadays under construction.
