Rostov NPP received a present from St. Danilov Monastery

On June 24-28, thousands of Volgodonsk citizens and inhabitants of adjacent villages had an opportunity of making a bow to orthodox sanctities which had been delivered to the city from St. Danilov Monastery. The exhibition of orthodox artists’ pictures, among which there were works of world famous artist Pavel Ryzhenko came to the city together with the sanctities.

On June 28, the sanctities – the portrait-icon of Seraphim of Sarov, made during his life, his beads, part of gown, miracle-working icon and a slipper of St. Spiridion of Trimifunt attended Rostov NPP, and during the dinner break the nuclear plant workers received an opportunity of bowing to the sanctities right in the enterprise temple.

The hallows were met at the nuclear plant solemnly. A prayer with acaphistus was served to reverend Seraphim of Sarov who was considered to be atomists’ patron.

Guide of the monastery museum Vera Bykova noted: “It is not a coincidence that the Russian Nuclear Centre and Diveevo tenement – the country spiritual centre – are located together. St. Danilov Monastery is also located not far from the building of Rosenergoatom Concern, and obviously this is not coincidence either. I liked the visit to your enterprise – such remarkable people, everything is clean and strict. I was impressed by the mirror in the elevator with a human figure and a sign: “Responsible for safety”.

Monastery lay sister Nadezhda Vasilyeva presented the nuclear plant temple with an icon of St. Spiridion of Trimifunt, consecrated on the wondermonger’s hallows.

St. Danilov Monastery and atomists have long-term relations of collaboration. Thus, at the end of 90s synodical hearing on the topic “Nuclear Weapons and National Safety of Russia” was held. Russian Orthodox Church voiced its opinion: the atomists’ work is necessary and the most important for the state, thus supporting the industry activity by its authority.

In 2010, a concert of the laureate of international contests of Festival Man Choir of Moscow Danilov Monastery and Synodal Residence of the Holiest Patriarch under the leadership of Regent George Safonov performed in a number of atomists’ cities.

Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13.5 km far from Volgodonsk city. The nuclear plant has two operating power units of VVER-1000-type reactors with installed capacity of 1000 MW. Power unit No. 1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, power unit No 2 – in December, 2010. Power units Nos. 3 and 4 are under construction.
