Rostov NPP Employees Render Assistance to Ship Passengers
The Water Management Department employees of the Support System Shop of Rostov nuclear power plant have been encouraged for their professionalism and prompt actions in an emergency situation that had threatened human life and health.
It began with the phone call of Alexander Gavrilenko, a Captain of ТRubinУ (The Ruby) Cruiser, to Roman Chulkov, a Chief of the Water Management Department, Support System Shop, asking for assistance. ТRubinУ suddenly had the main engine breakdown, and 20 passengers of the motor vessel, eight of which were children, had a need of evacuation to the shore.
In the area of the childrenХs camp ТMayakУ (The Lighthouse), ТRubinУ has carried out an emergency anchoring. Immediately after receiving a signal, to the place of the emergency anchoring there has been sent a speed motorboat ТYamaranУ (Captain Alexander Bondarev). In half an hour by the order of Chief Engineer of the plant Alexey Zhukov, the motor vessel ТAleksander ZharkovУ (Captain Vladislav Rotanov, Mate Valery Sergeyev), and houseboat ТSudarynyaУ (The Madam) (Captain Roman Chulkov) arrived at the place.
The evacuation of the passengers, primarily women and children, to the nearest leisure base started immediately. An hour later, all the passengers were safely brought ashore. ТAlexander ZharkovУ and ТSudarynyaУ after the evacuation successfully towed ТRubinУ to the moorage for reparations, and returned to the parking base.
Roman Chulkov said: ТRostov NPP under support of the management of the plant created a small but decent fleet carrying out its tasks in the waters of the cooling pond Р Tsymlyansk Reservoir and Don water-collecting area. According to the requirements of the Water Code of RF, the staff of the Water Management Department provided continuous day-and-night duty. One of the pinnaces is always ready to go. Therefore, the readiness to provide aid and prevent accidents is one of the main tasks of the crews of Water Management Department boats.У
Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The enterprise is situated on the bank of Tsimlyansk Reservoir at 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. NPP operates two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with the capacity of 1,000 MW. Unit 1 was commissioned in 2001 and Unit 2 Р in December 2010. Power Units 3 and 4 are nowadays under construction.
