Rostekhnadzor Starts Scheduled Inspection of Smolensk NPP

On May 14, 2012 the Rostekhnadzor (RTN) Commission of North-European Transregional Territorial Directorate for Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision started its work at Smolensk NPP.

At the evaluation meeting with the participation of the Director of SNPP Andrey Petrov, the Commission Chairman Р Chief of RTN Department Alexander Kolesnev outlined the purpose of the expected inspection as a check of the compliance of the plant activities with the requirements of rules and regulations in the field of safe use of nuclear energy.



The Commission will be working in five areas, including radioactive waste handling, accounting, control and nuclear material storage. Following the results of the inspection, there will be drawn up acts in each area.

The Commission will work till May 25.

Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Annually SNPP provides the country power system at an average of about 20 billion kWh of electrical power, which makes about 13% of energy produced by Rosenergoatom Concern and more than 80% produced by the power enterprises of the Smolensk Region.
