Rosenergoatom Concern carried out a procedure of public consultations on Annual draft report of 2011

On April 3, 2012 Smolensk NPP held public consultations on draft report with the persons concerned.

The event was attended by representatives of the Federation Council and the State Duma of Russia, subject matter experts of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC and Rosatom State Corporation, heads of legislative and executive branches of the municipal entity Desnogorsk City, contracting organizations of Smolensk NPP, public nonprofit organizations of the association Knowledge, a branch of Smolensk NPP, the Oka environmental organization, and the Russian geographic association. The discussion was attended by representatives of mass media.  

As a part of the dialogues of public consultations, there were discussed the most important for the persons concerned topics: ТOn improving safety of nuclear power plants of Russia due to the fact of the events of March, 2011 at FukushimaУ and ТOn the concept of the annual reportУ.

Alexander Shutikov, a Deputy General Director - Director for production and operation of the nuclear power plant of Rosenergoatom Concern, outlined in his report all modern projects, undertaken in the nuclear industry and aimed at improving safety of nuclear power plants and their modernization. ТModern Russian projects of NPPs fully comply with the Тpost-FukushimaУ requirements. Moreover, all technical solutions of new projects, including VVER-TOI, have reference character. Rosenergoatom Concern and the nuclear industry of Russia in general have proved the ability to adequately, fast and efficiently respond to new challenges in the field of safe operation of nuclear power plants,У Р he stressed.

In his turn, Andrey Petrov, a Director of Smolensk NPP, addressed the consultation participants with a presentation on topic ТSafety ensuring of Smolensk NPPУ, in which he paid special attention to a check of the nuclear power plant by international IAEA experts in September, 2011, and dwelt on the recommendations of experts and best practices of Smolensk NPP, proposed for implementation at nuclear power plants all over the world.

Noting positions of the annual draft report, and its necessity as an important document for persons concerned, the SNPP Director told: ТI consider that the issues discussed at Smolensk NPP will form the basis of the official public report of Rosenergoatom Concern. The Russian nuclear power engineering is in its right way and nuclear power plants are transparent for the public supervision.У

The participants could make sure in safe and reliable operation of the nuclear power plant during the technical tour to the operating power units.

During the discussions there were given suggestions and recommendations. Most of them were dedicated to innovative projects of safety improving, which should have been available to the public at large. As a result, the submitted to the draft report proposals have been considered.

In 2010 it was decided for the first time to prepare an integrated annual report according to the guidance and standard of cooperation with persons concerned and Model standard of public annual report of key organizations of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom. In 2012 Smolensk NPP became a platform of public consultations on the 2011 Annual draft report of Rosenergoatom Concern.

Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Annually SNPP provides the country power system at an average of about 20 billion kWh of electric power, which makes about 13% of energy produced by Rosenergoatom Concern and more than 80% produced by the power enterprises of the Smolensk Region.
