Rosenergoatom Concern Turns 20
On September 7, 2012 one of the largest power enterprises of Russia Р Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC Р celebrated its 20th anniversary.
The Concern, which is the absolute leader among energy companies of Russia in terms of electric power generation, and which ranks second in the world in terms of the installed capacity, was found on September 7, 1992 by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation. It is the only company in Russia constructing simultaneously 9 power units with the capacity of no less than 1 GW each, at 5 sites, and one floating unit.
Today Rosenergoatom includes 10 operational nuclear power plants, which have the status of the ConcernХs branches, as well as 7 Directions of NPPs under construction, and a number of engineering enterprises. The Concern successfully accomplishes its primary mission: the generation of electricity and heat providing guaranteed safety as the highest priority of its activity.
According to General Director of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, Yevgeny Romanov, foundation of the Concern in 1992 provided consolidation of efforts of nuclear scientists to retain the industry, and paved the way for its shooting forward into the future. ТToday we are proud to say that our company has passed the test of time. Nuclear power plants, included in the Concern, form a significant part of the power balance of the country, and with the construction of new power units in the nearest future, this figure will further grow. Rosenergoatom, being a power generating and dynamically growing company, holds strong positions in Russia and abroad,У noted the head of the Concern, stressing that the primary objective, pursued by the company by 2030, was to become an energy leader not only in Russia, but throughout the world too.

In 2011 nuclear power plants of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC produced over 172,681 billion kWh of electric power, which made up 101.7 % according to the plan of FTS of Russia. The main achievement of 2011 was setting of Kalinin 4 into pilot operation.
Due to the events at Fukushima NPP (Japan), in 2011 there was conducted an additional check of the status of operational NPPs for the conformance with the projects, norms and regulations, the stability study of the defense in depth of the operational NPPs and those under construction to extreme external actions, and worked out the additional measures to ensure their safety.
In 2011 the investment program on construction of power units of nuclear power plants continued its implementation. In particular, there was obtained a license of Rostekhnadzor for the construction of the first power unit of Baltic NPP. The construction of Units 3 and 4 of Rostov NPP, Unit 1 of Novovoronezh II, Unit 4 of Beloyarsk II, Unit 1 of Leningrad II and Floating Combined Heat and Power Nuclear Plant in Vilyuchinsk, Kamchatka Krai, was continued.
Also last year the Concern became a part of the founding members, and owns about 92% of the authorized share capital of the Design Campaign on Construction and Operation of Akkuyu NPP (Turkey).
