Representatives of Leningrad NPP Take Part in Dialogue in Saint-Petersburg on Radiation Safety of Nuclear Facilities

At the Information Centre for Nuclear Energy in St. Petersburg, there have been held a dialogue of representatives of Rosatom Nuclear Energy State Corporation with the persons concerned on the subject ТDisclosure of Information on Nuclear Facilities Safety in the Annual Report of Rosatom Nuclear Energy State CorporationУ.

To participate in the dialogue, there have been invited representatives of the regional and municipal authorities, enterprises and organizations of Rosatom Nuclear Energy State Corporation, scientific association, public and environmental organizations, and mass media.

In the dialogue, Sosnoviy Bor was represented by the Head of the Municipal Entity Dmitriy Pulyaevskiy, Head of the environmental management and environmental safety department of the city Administration Natalya Malevannaya, representatives of Leningrad NPP and LNPP II under construction, NITI (Scientific-Research Institute of Technology), Ecomet-C, and public environmental organization Zelleniy Mir (Green World).

The participants made their reports on the main subject Р the radiation safety of nuclear facilities.

The Chief Engineer of Leningrad nuclear power plant Konstantin Kudryavtsev spoke on how much attention was paid to safety at Leningrad NPP, and what correctives measures on improvement of safe operation were performed at the nuclear power plant after the analysis of the events at Fukushima NPP. He also stressed that, as well as another nuclear power plants of Russia, Leningrad NPP management had completely revised the approach to security issues, and the conducted stress-tests had really confirmed a high level of safety of the Russian nuclear power plants. ТAny operating NPPУ - said Konstantin Germanovich - Тmust meet the requirements of todayХs safety, and only in this case the enterprise has a right to exist.У

At the conclusion of the held dialogue, the parties have formed a list of suggestions on disclosure of additional information that might have been reflected in the public report of Rosatom Nuclear Energy State Corporation for the period of 2011. In particular, Dmitriy has recommended an Тactive implementing of the social componentУ; the IBRAE (Institute for Nuclear Safety) representative offered Тto pay more attention to the issues on emergency responseУ; and the members of the Environmental Council of the Governor of the Leningrad region suggested Тto introduce the environmental educationУ, and many others.
