Preparations for the reactor containmentХs endurance and leak tests are in progress at the Leningrad NPP under construction

The process of filling in the 1st power blockХs reactor containment pre-tensioning system tubes has been completed at the Leningrad NPPХs substitution capabilities site. This process is referred to as injection.

76 horizontal and 50 vertical tubes were filled in with specially designed concrete solution to avoid tubes slacking and to level up their tension in the containment vessel.

At the previous stage, intersecting super-tough cables were placed into each tube, thus forming wire bundles. After the tension, they will clamp the crestal area and the cylindrical belt of the containment like a net to improve its endurance. During the whole operation period of the power block, special sensors will control the ropesХ tension force.
The containmentХs endurance and leak tests will be the final step of the whole process.

The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each. Also, pursuant to the NPP-2006 project, 1,2 VVER-1200 power blocks included into The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM long-term plan are being constructed. Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is the owner and developer of the project. Holding TITAN-2 is the primary contractor. ATOMPROEKT is the general designer.
