One of the most important activities of OJSC Rosenergoatom (electric power division of Rosatom) is to work with the public and the media. The policy of openness is an absolute priority for the Company, nuclear power plants and subsidiaries. Under this policy, several dozen press tours are organized to the Russian nuclear power plants each year.

An illustration of this approach was a press tour for foreign media representatives held on June 3, 2015 at Novovoronezh NPP. 120 journalists of foreign broadcasting companies and print media had an opportunity to learn about operation of nuclear power plant and construction of new power unit of Novovoronezh NPP-2.

Media representatives visited the site of the operating nuclear power plant, got acquainted with in-core detection and external power systems simulator, and visited full-scale simulator and NPP control room simulator. The journalists were also given a tour to the construction site of the new units and visited the observation deck to see the entire power plant area.

The participants of the press tour formed a very favorable opinion of the organization of the event. ТThe visit to the Novovoronezh NPP enabled us to see the construction of the new power unit. It was my first visit to an NPP under construction. In my opinion, the material we have recorded will be highly informative taking into account the lively interest in this topic shown by Slovak viewers,У pointed out the editor of the channel Markiza Yan Maloch.

Chaba Poor, the reporter of the Hungarian paper Nepszabadsa, said, ТPersonally, I found it interesting to see the site of the whole NPP cluster and to observe the construction works of the NPP which will be a reference model for the future NPP in Paks. Talking to the plantХs employees I received interesting information, first of all, on the management of the plant. I am sure that it will come in handy in the future.У

Unfortunately, during the press tour several foreign reporters breached NPP security requirements by accidentally taking pictures and recording on video the external circuit of the plantХs physical protection while in actual fact they were taking pictures and filming the plantХs facilities. Under current regulations and legislation, those video and photographic materials were deleted from the memory drives of their equipment at the request of the security.

Rosenergoatom emphasizes that safety is an unconditional priority in the Russian nuclear industry functioning. Close control over compliance with the safety standards at nuclear sites is thus rigorous. The requirements to an NPP site protection from hypothetical external threats are not only responds to current geopolitical situation, antiterrorist security measures, but they also raise credibility level to the Russian nuclear industry on the part of the social community in the grounds of nuclear power plants location.

The Novovoronezh NPP Information and Public Relations Center

Novovoronezh NPP is the branch of JSC ЗConcern RosenergoatomИ. The plant  is located on the Don riverside, 42 km south to Voronezh. This is the first Russian NPP with VVER reactors (VVER vessel type using light pressurized water). Each of the five plant units is lead unit - a prototype of commercial power units: ?1 with VVER-210, ?2 with VVER-365,  ?? 3, 4 with VVER-440, ? 5 with VVER-1000. The first unit was commissioned in 1964, second - in 1969, third - in 1971, fourth - in 1972, fifth Р 1980.

Currently, three power units are operational (power units ?? 1,2 were shut down in 1984 and 1990 respectively).

Innovative units 6 and 7 with joint  capacity of 1200 MW are now under construction, since 2007.
