Novovoronezh NPP: Young Professionals of JSC Atomenergoproyekt Visit Nuclear Power Plant, both Operating and Under Construction
On July 19, 2012 a team of young professionals of JSC Atomenergoproyekt (Moscow) visited Novovoronezh NPP with a study tour.
The young designers were at the Public Information Centre of Novovoronezh NPP, where they also visited the nuclear power plantХs museum and exposition of the search element ТPeresvetУ. There the young professionals knew about the basic stages of 48-year history of NV NPP operation, about interesting facts of the public, culture and sports life of Novovoronezh nuclear engineers, as well as viewed the exposition of the search element.
After that, the guests visited the operating plant, where they observed the work of the operational staff at the main control unit, visited the observation site and turbine island of Units 3 and 4. ТThe plant looks impressive. The staff is highly skilled, and we have got the answers to all of our questions. Most of all I was impressed by the reactor compartment: when you are on the observation site, just at a few meters from the reactor, you have an unusual feeling,У Ivan Altunin, a young specialist of JSC AEP, shared his opinion.
NV NPP II construction site was of particular interest, because JSC Atomenergoproyekt is an engineering company, which not only designs, but also directly supervises the construction of modern power units. The visitors viewed all the major technological premises of the first unit of Novovoronezh II under construction.
ТWe were interested in everything: how the work at the operating plant was organized, and, of course, how the new NPP has been constructed,У said Stanislav Konyashkin, an employee of the Bureau for Complex Design Nr.7 of JSC AEP. ТAlthough our bureau is engaged in designing of NPPs with RBMK reactors, we know VVER technology too; we studied it at the university. It was especially interesting to see with our own eyes how a turbine was mounted, where there would be installed the reactor vessel and steam generators, and everything that was associated with the equipment.У
Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don river at 42 km south of Voronezh. It is the first NPP in Russia, which operates reactors of VVER-type (Vessel type Pressurized Water Reactor with light water under pressure). Each of the five plant reactors are prime Р a prototype of serial power reactors: No.1 power unit operates on VVER-210-type reactor, No.2 power unit Р VVER-365, No.3,4 power units Р VVER-440, No.5 power unit Р VVER-1000. The first unit was started up in 1964, second Р in 1969, third Р in 1971, fourth Р in 1972, and the fifth Р in 1979.
Currently three power units are operated (Units 1 and 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990, respectively).
