Novovoronezh NPP: Small Olympic Games Start in Nuclear EngineersХ City
On July 17, 2012 Novovoronezh started traditional small Olympic Games dedicated to the memory of the first Director of Novovoronezh NPP, Fedor Ovchinnikov.
The solemn opening ceremony was attended by his son and grandson - Sergey and Fedor Ovchinnikov, Assistant to Director of NV NPP, Alexey Bykov, Trade Union Committee Chairman, Yuri Babenko, OSR Head, Mariya Katargina and heads of sports facilities of the city and coaches.
ТWe open the small Olympic Games for the tenth time. These competitions are milestone, and we are pleased that each year they attract new participants. Let these competitions bring joy and good luck to all sports participants,У said Sergey Ovchinnikov in his greeting word.
Unfortunately, bad weather delayed the teams from Semiluksky, Khokholsky and Liskinsky districts, and they were late for the opening ceremony, but for sure the guests will take part in the competitions.
The small Olympic Games each year gain more popularity, they have become open, and young athletes of the region participate in them with pleasure. And Novovoronezh teams like ТOlympiyetsУ, ТEnergetikУ, ТRodnichokУ and ТEronУ are the constant participants of the small Olympic Games.

Before the start of track and field competitions, masters of Kyokushinkai karate from Novovoronezh and the region, led by NV NPP employee, Andrey Akatov, performed their skills before the participants, having created a competitive fighting spirit for all the young Olympians.
During the week the sports combats in football, tennis, track and field sports and swimming will be carried out at Novovoronezh stadium and Sports and Recreational Centre. And on July 23, a jury headed by Chief Justice of the competitions, an Honored Coach of the Russian Federation in track and field, Valery Mamonov, will summarize the results.
All the winners will receive prizes and gifts from the management of Novovoronezh nuclear power plant.
Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don river at 42 km south of Voronezh. It is the first NPP in Russia, which operates reactors of VVER-type (Vessel type Pressurized Water Reactor with light water under pressure). Each of the five plant reactors are prime Р a prototype of serial power reactors: No.1 power unit operates on VVER-210-type reactor, No.2 power unit Р VVER-365, No.3,4 power units Р VVER-440, No.5 power unit Р VVER-1000. The first unit was started in 1964, 2nd Р in 1969, 3rd Р in 1971, 4th Р in 1972, and the fifth Р in 1979.
At present, three power units are under operation (units 1 and 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990, respectively).
