Novovoronezh NPP: Nuclear Plant Director has conducted an excursion for children

On May 26, the pupils of 7B form of secondary school No. 5 accompanied by class parent committee Chairman Vera Barakova came to the public information centre.

Excursionists had often been attending the museum of Novovoronezh nuclear plant since its opening in the public information centre. They were guests from Voronezh and the rest of the region, but the most often the museum was visited by the children from Novovoronezh schools and the Energy College and even kindergarten pupils.

ТWe organize all types of educational travels for the children of our class on a regular basis. And when we came to know that the nuclear plant museum had opened, we asked you to accept usУ, Vera Ivanovna said. ТThe city and the plant are of the same age. The history of the NPP construction and development coincides with those of the city, where we live and where our children live and study. I suppose it will be interesting for the children. Many parents of our class children work at the city forming enterpriseУ.

That time Vitaly K. Sedov was the guide. He had been at the nuclear branch forefront and had worked at the famous Mayak. In 1964, SedovХs shift put the first  Novovoronezh NPP power unit into operation, having synchronized the nuclear plant electric power with the country unified power system. In 1978-1981, Vitaly Konstantinovich was NV NPP Director.

The children not only heard the veteranХs interesting story and got acquainted with documents and photos, but also saw such unique showpieces as a capsule with uranium tablet, and valve rods containing the nuclear fuel loaded into the reactor.

Besides, the specialist of public information centre Yury Molokov told the children about the basic principles of a nuclear plant operation and the children watched the animated cartoons on the topic. The museum exposition and the very excursion produced a great impression on the children.

Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don River, 42 km to the south of Voronezh. This is the first Russian NPP with VVER-type reactors (pressurized water reactors of the vessel type using light pressurized water).

The radiation background at Novovoronezh NPP and in the area of its location corresponds to the normal operation of power units and does not exceed the natural environmental values.

Detailed and timely information about the radiation environment near Russian NPPs and other objects of the nuclear industry is available in the site www.russianatom.ru.
