Novovoronezh NPP: Nuclear Engineers Take Part in Regional Environmental Festival ТEcogradУ
On June 5, 2012 in Voronezh there has passed an environmental festival ТEcogradУ, dedicated to the World Day of the Environment, and summing up the All-Russian action ТDays of Protection from Ecological HazardsУ.
The substantial delegation of the nuclear city took active part in the festival: the specialists of Novovoronezh NPP, members of the city public environmental organization ТGreen PlanetУ, teachers and students of Novovoronezh Polytechnic College, a branch of NRNU MEPhI, and school children.
In the environmental city on the avenues of the park ТScarlet SailsУ, there was formed a kind of craftsmen streets, where the participants of the festival could see the holiday theme exhibitions: ТEcohouseУ, ТWildlifeУ, ТGreen RegionУ, exhibition of posters in graffiti technology ТSave and PreserveУ, photographs gallery ТA Look at the NatureУ, expositions ТOn Pages of the Red ListУ, and ТPreserved Places of the Voronezh TerritoryУ.
At the festival ТEnvironmental Report of Novovoronezh Nuclear Power PlantУ, Novovoronezh citizens presented booklets about the plant, took active part in various quizzes and even managed to make a birdhouse, which will be delivered to the State Wildlife Preservation ТVenevitinskiy KordonУ.
The interregional and regional public environmental organizations ТGreen PlanetУ, ТEKAУ, ТCentre of Environmental PoliticsУ, ТPublic InitiativeУ, the Youth innovative environmental project ТBreezeУ and industrial group ТPromotionУ taught master classes, carried out quizzes, and contests, ecological games. The participants of cognitive and learning activities in the form of a game were reminded about caring for water, necessity of preserving the pureness of the native land, suggested feasible opportunities to help the ТGreen PlanetУ to avoid becoming black from the debris.
Of great interest was the demonstration of environmentally friendly transport: electric bus, electric scooter, electric bicycles and robots.
As part of the environmental festival, there was held a big colorful concert of creative teams and awarding of environmental unions for active participation in the environment protection.
Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don river at 42 km south of Voronezh. It is the first NPP in Russia, which operates reactors of VVER-type (Vessel type Pressurized Water Reactor with light water under pressure). Each of the five plant reactors are prime Р a prototype of serial power reactors: No.1 power unit operates on VVER-210-type reactor, No.2 power unit Р VVER-365, No.3,4 power units Р VVER-440, No.5 power unit Р VVER-1000.
Currently three power units are operated (Units 1 and 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990, respectively).
