Novovoronezh NPP: Knowledge Day in Atomic City
September 1 Р the Day of Knowledge in the atomic city Novovoronezh.
More than 3000 pupils of five comprehensive secondary schools of the city sat at the desks. The education year has begun also for the Polytechnic College students and Novovoronezh faculty of the International Institute of Computer Technology.
It has become a good tradition that the plantХs management, deputies of the City Council Р the nuclear power plantХs employees - attend solemn meetings dedicated to the beginning of the academic year. Moreover, nuclear engineers always come with gifts: this year 317 first-graders were given kits decorated with the logos of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC and Novovoronezh NPP.
Speaking at the lineup of the sponsored School 1, Director of Novovoronezh NPP, Vladimir Povarov, emphasized that School 1 had always stood first according to the quality of knowledge, number of medalists and winners of subject competitions. The school leavers successfully work at Novovoronezh NPP and other nuclear power plants of Russia, occupying senior positions. Vladimir Petrovich wished the pupils and teachers to keep the leading position of the school.
Head of Novovoronezh - a Head of PIC of NPP, Yuri Pegusov and City Manager of the urban district, Sergey Chestikin, appealed to the pupils and students of the Polytechnic College with parting words. The head of the city handed honorary certificates and flowers to seven teachers of School 3, which this year celebrated its 40th anniversary. According to Yuri Ivanovich, the school number 3 has become the centre of the environmental education due to creation on its basis of the local branch of Voronezh Regional Environmental Organization ТThe Green PlanetУ.
Vice-Governor Р First Deputy Head of the Government of the Voronezh region, Alexander Gusev, attended solemn lineups of the atomic city. He wished the children good luck in studies, because the future of the nuclear industry of the region and country in whole was in their hands.
Such enterprise like a nuclear power plant needs skilled competent professionals, and the foundation of competence and culture is laid within school walls. To make the educational process the most effective, bosses do everything possible: NPP assists in school reparations, participates in strengthening and improvement of the material base. Gyms of all the city schools are reconditioned and recreation grounds are improved.
On the Day of Knowledge the Public Information Centre of Novovoronezh NPP was open to public until late evening: more than 300 pupils, students, teachers and citizens have visited it. Specialists of PIC have organized and have given 12 tours with lectures on the history of NPP and the environmental policy of the Concern. At the museum of the nuclear power plant, some most active participants of the meetings were given the opportunity Тto put the first unit of the plant into operationУ, switching in the breadboard model. These guys were handed symbolic certificates of the power unit startup participant and ТWork Books of Novovoronezh NPPУ. Also there were held multiple meetings of students with the first builders and veterans of NPP and representatives of the Youth Atomic Organization.
Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don river at 42 km south of Voronezh. It is the first NPP in Russia, which operates reactors of VVER-type (Vessel type Pressurized Water Reactor with light water under pressure). Each of the five plant reactors are prime Р a prototype of serial power reactors: No.1 power unit operates on VVER-210-type reactor, No.2 power unit Р VVER-365, No.3,4 power units Р VVER-440, No.5 power unit Р VVER-1000. Currently three power units are operated (Units 1 and 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990, respectively).
