June 1, an International ChildrenХs Day - the first day of summer and a feast for all kids in Novovoronezh traditionally started with a cheerful and crowded event Р a contest of drawings on asphalt.

This year it was attended by about five hundred boys and girls from 4 to 14 years old. ТMy Planet, My Country, My CityУ Р such was the subject of the festive contest.



A lot of children depicted on their drawings the nuclear power plant and explained that it was the main enterprise of their city. And David Sevastyanov drew the nuclear plant because his father built new units of NPP II.

The authors of the most colorful and informative drawings on the nuclear subject Р and such a nomination was specially established due to the 55th anniversary of Novovoronezh and 20th anniversary of Rosenergoatom Concern Р received prizes from the Public Information Centre of Novovoronezh NPP.

The main prize - a colorful album of paintings and art drawing of the artist Valentina Kutsevich Р was awarded to Anya Semenova. Her drawing named ТPeaceful AtomУ was recognized by the jury as the best in that topic. And two pupils of School 1, Olya Uryupina and Alena Kuzyukova, who took the second prize, received the 5-episode documentary film ТEncyclopedia of an AtomУ. The girls were very pleased to get the prize, because there were no nuclear engineers in their families. ТAnd we will become!У promised the 7th grade girls.

The holiday was not only cheerful and diversified, but also informative. Actors of Voronezh Youth Theatre performed the play about the adventures of Tom Sawyer. In the park and courtyards, there passed various entertaining programs, carousels and rides were functioning.

The organizers also did not forget about the disabled children: in cooperation with the management of Novovoronezh NPP (Director of the plant, Vladimir Povarov, is a Chairman of the Board of Directors of the city enterprises and Guardianship) allocated the funds of the Christmas charity fund for their medical treatment. In addition, they bought presents for talented children for the fundХs money.
In the Society of the Disabled there also was held a festival for the children with disabilities. There was laid a ТsweetУ table, sounded music, and children, each one according to his strength and capabilities, played games, sang and danced in a ring. Employees of the Department of Social Development of Novovoronezh NPP gave presents to every kid, and flowers to mothers and grandmothers.   
The ChildrenХs Day in Novovoronezh once again confirmed that nuclear engineers have a big and kind heart.
 
Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don river at 42 km south of Voronezh. It is the first NPP in Russia, which operates reactors of VVER-type (Vessel type Pressurized Water Reactor with light water under pressure). Each of the five plant reactors are prime Р a prototype of serial power reactors: No.1 power unit operates on VVER-210-type reactor, No.2 power unit Р VVER-365, No.3,4 power units Р VVER-440, No.5 power unit Р VVER-1000.  
The radiation background in the area of the plant and the adjacent territory corresponds to the level of power unitsХ normal operation and does not exceed the natural environmental values.
