Novovoronezh NPP: Belarusian nuclear power engineers adopt experience of their Russian colleagues in the field of emergency response

Belarusian specialists visited Novovoronezh NPP (branch company of Rosenergoatom Concern) to gain experience of working with the emergency documents and delivering the emergency response drill.

ТIn accordance with the requirements of state supervisory bodies the personnel of nuclear power plant should be ready to eliminate emergencies and commit emergency response actions before the launch of operations at the plant - by the time of fuel delivery. Therefore, the availability of a full set of emergency documents is an essential condition for obtaining a license to operate the plantХs power unitsУ, the Head of an engineer support group of Belarusian NPP Dmitriy Zavyalov said.
Belarusian NPP is being built in Astravyets District of the Grodno Oblast under innovative project with VVER-1200 reactors of 3+ generation. Under this very project the power units of Leningrad and Novovoronezh NPPs are being constructed in Russia. That is why the Belarusian colleagues often visit Novovoronezh and share their experience.

The visit of the Belarusian nuclear power engineers in order to obtain experience of working with emergency documents has taken place in terms of Т2015 -2017 Rosatom Action Plan to Create the Nuclear Energy Infrastructure in the Republic of BelarusУ. Among these events there are seminars, meetings, technical tours for Belarusian specialists at Russian nuclear power plants with VVER-1200 reactors, as well as Belarusian NPP staff trainings at the Project Office of International Staff Training Centre of Novovoronezh NPP.

In 2016, 72 employees of Belarusian NPP went through training at the Project Office of Novovoronezh NPP. And this year it is planned to train 159 foreign colleagues. In 2017 we as well plan to give 5 technical tours at Novovoronezh NPP for the Belarusian nuclear power engineers.

During the technical visits to Russian NPPs and nuclear companies the Belarusian specialists are learning about commissioning works at the plant, the procedure of putting full-scale simulators in operation and their handling, experience assessment when conducting bed tests and fuel assembly repair, technology of FA imitators handling, issues of environmental protection activity organization, and many others.

The Novovoronezh nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located on the bank of the Don River in 42 km to the south of Voronezh. It is the Russia's first nuclear power plant with VVER reactors (water-to-water power reactors of case type with regular water under pressure). Each of five reactors of the station can be a main one Р a prototype of serial power reactors: the power unit No. 1 with the VVER-210 reactor, the power unit No. 2 with the VVER-365 reactor, the No. 3, 4 power units with the VVER-440 reactors, the power unit No. 5 with the VVER-1000 reactor. The first power unit was launched in 1964, the second Р in 1969, third Р in 1971, fourth Р 1972, fifth Р 1980. There are three power units (power units No.1, 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990 respectively) in work at the moment.

Since 2007, the innovative 6th and 7th power blocks with the capacity of 1200 megawatts each have been constructed at the Novovoronezh NPPХs site. The 7th power block is currently undergoing construction and assembly activities and is planned to be completed in 2018.
