Novovoronezh NPP: A Visit of Sergey Adamchik and Nikolay Sorokin

On March 20, 2012 General Inspectors of Rosatom State Corporation Sergey Adamchik and Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC Nikolay Sorokin paid a working visit to Novovoronezh NPP.

They made a round check of the 5th power unit, held a business meeting with the engineer and managerial staff of the operating plant, and inspected the construction of NV NPP-2.

The first object, visited by the General Inspectors, was full scale training simulator of the 5th power unit, which is the exact analogue of its unit control room (UCR). Deputy Chief Engineer of the nuclear power plant Vladimir Lobanov told the guests that the training simulator had been fully involved in complex emergency response exercise (CERE) that took place at NV NPP in November of last year. УIn total in CERE we have worked out 15 scenarios, including complex Fukushima case scenario,У he told.

According to the opinion of Konstantin Kharchenko, a Leading Instructor on the 5th power unit staff training, now the simulator allows to work out steps to eliminate not only nominal design-basis accidents, but also partially beyond-design-basis ones. ТAnd after installation of the beyond-design-basis accidents unit on the full scale training simulator, it will be possible to perform full range of emergencies,У Р he told.

After that the inspectors visited the UCR, a turbine island of the first 1000 MWe reactor, which has undergone the thorough modernization.
During the business meeting with the engineer and managerial staff of NV NPP Sergey Adamchik made a report on the 2011 status of nuclear, radiation, industrial, fire and labour safety of Rosatom organizations.

In addition, participants discussed a number of different issues. In particular, it was noted that there was a need in advancing the responsibility of designers for the quality of the equipment supplied to the NPP.

Commenting on the results of work in 2011, Viktor Zabava, a Chief Inspector of NV NPP, noted that the plant staff had done a lot of work on modernization of the 5th power unit. ТAt this, the company was not allowed a single accident,У stressed Viktor Zabava.
According to his words, in 2012 about 38 million rubles will be allocated on the implementation of labor protection measures. And one of the main tasks for the current year is a creation of the Labour Safety E-Room at NV NPP.

According to the Chief Inspector, in the current year at the plant there will be conducted 17 inspections of various levels, some of which have already been completed successfully, in particular, the international insurance re-inspection.

Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don river 42 km southward Voronezh. It is the first NPP in Russia, which operates reactors of VVER-type (Vessel type Pressurized Water Reactor with light water under pressure). Each of the five plant reactors are prime Р prototype of serial power reactors: the No.1 power unit operates on VVER-210-type reactor, the No.2 power unit Р VVER-365, No.3,4 power units Р VVER-440, the No.5 power unit Р VVER-1000.

Nowadays the three power units are in operation (the No.1,2 power units were stopped in 1984 and 1990 respectively).
