Novovoronezh II Receives First High Power Single-Phase Transformer

First high power single-phase transformer has been delivered to Unit 1 of Novovoronezh II.

ТThis is an important event for us,У noted Director of the Direction of Novovoronezh II under Construction, a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, Sergey Petrov. ТOn the site of Novovoronezh II there already exist two coupling autotransformers of 220/500 kV, four start-up transformers, and now there has been received the first phase of a unit transformer. There is carried out an implementation program of the scheme of power distribution from Unit 1 under construction. By the end of 2012, the transformers should be installed at their proper locations.У

The transformer with the capacity of 533 MW and with electric potential of 500 kV is designed specially for Novovoronezh II, and is made at JSC Electrozavod (Electric Plant), Moscow. In total, there will be supplied four such aggregates, one of which is back-up. The weight of each transformer is 340 tons. Transformers with improved design and technical characteristics refer to power equipment of new generation.

According to the general designer and general contractor JSC Atomenergoproyekt, in the next two months it is planned to supply single-phase high power transformers to the production site of Unit 1. Installation of the equipment is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2012. For Unit 2, three similar transformers will be delivered from the factory.

Novovoronezh II is being built as per the design of NPP-2006 with the use of VVER-1200 model pile assembly. This project is based on technology of the project NPP-92. The project NPP-92 is recognized as satisfying all EUR requirements as to NPPs with LWR-reactors of the new generation. Certification of the project shows a high level of reliability and safety of Nv NPP II. The NPP-2006 power unit will operate at the capacity of 1200 MW.  Its lifetime extends for 60 years. The Phase 1 project of Nv NPP II contemplates construction of two power units.

Engineering company JSC Atomenergoproyekt (Moscow) is a general designer and general contractor of Nv NPP II construction. It is a member of Rosatom State Corporation. The company created projects of the majority of nuclear power plants on the territory of Russia, Eastern Europe and CIS countries. JSC Atomenergoproyekt is also a general designer of Bushehr NPP in Iran, Koodankulam NPP in India, Belene NPP in Bulgaria, and Akkuyu NPP in Turkey.

Construction manager functions are performed by Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC.
