Novovoronezh II Construction Site Completes Dome Steel Erection of Inner Shell of Unit 1 Containment Building
The dome of the containment building consisting of the upper and lower parts has been mounted in two phases with a crane DEMAG: mounting of the sixth tier from the mark +44,1 to mark +51,7 m, and construction of the seventh and eighth tiers from the mark +51,7 to +61,7 m. The total weight of the dome steels makes up more than 400 tons, and the inner diameter of the base Р 44 m.
The inner shell of the containment building, a part of which is a dome as well, is the basic element of the localization and protection system. Double shell of the containment building excludes the radioactivity output into environment, and serves as physical protection to withstand natural and man-made external influences, including earthquake, hurricanes, and a fully loaded passenger airliner impact without rapture.
The Deputy Director - Director for Capital Construction of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC Viktor Suchkov congratulated the JSC AEPХs staff with the successful completion of works on dome mounting of the inner shell of the containment building. During the meeting of the emergency response centre on Novovoronezh II construction topic, which took place on May 11, he, in particular, stressed: ТSealing off the 1st unit containment building is a significant event, which has become the result of a long and hard work of the whole staff.У
During the first month there will be carried out the welding works on the dome. After that, there will be started an interior finishing of the containment premises, important for the reactor vessel mounting
The dome mounting was preceded by pre-assembly works of its component elements thus ensuring the high quality of the works. At the datum grade, there has been carried out not only assembly of steel structures, but installation of technological systems as well, in particular, important elements of the nuclear power plant safety systems.
