Leningrad NPP: the power block No.2 reactor building floor panel is being constructed using special concrete
The process of floor panel installation in the power block No.2 reactor building started in early February has now reached the mark of +14,500 m and continues.
On March 10, 2016, the third catch was treated with concrete; that said, a half of the scope planned for this panel has been completed to date.
The Northern Construction Department contracting company has laid down over 200 cubic meters of extra heavy concrete consisting of iron-ore flakes and iron shot. The usage of metal filler in concrete mixture helps to make the whole structure more stable and crack-resistant. Additionally, during the operational period of an NPP extra heavy concrete protects the staff from ionizing radiation.
It is important to note that the process of panel concreting was compliant with all the standards on operations under low temperatures. That said, six heat guns are used to keep the temperature of 15 ?C needed for concrete placement. At the moment, we carry out concrete handling in the power block No.2 reactor building under construction to keep the most optimal temperature and humidity conditions for the concrete to become solid.
Once the panel is settled at +14,500 m, lots of opportunities will be uncovered to complete the inner building structures up to +26,00 m where the grounds for the core process equipment will be mounted afterward.
The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each. Also, pursuant to the NPP-2006 project, 1,2 VVER-1200 power blocks included into The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM long-term plan are being constructed. Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is the owner and developer of the project. Holding TITAN-2 is the primary contractor. ATOMPROEKT is the general designer.
