Leningrad NPP: the final major element of the nuclear facility Р electrical connection block Р is installed at the construction site of the first unit
The work on the assembly of the VVER-1200 reactor plant continues at the construction site of the first replacement power unit of Leningrad NPP. The assembly organization specialists placed the final major element of the nuclear facility Р electrical connection block (ECB) Р in the permanent position. The main purpose of ECB is to connect power and control cables to the unit control and monitoring system.
This equipment is represented by a metallic structure consisting of a top plate, spacing devices, steel stanchions, and an operating aisle, which is situated on the top of the reactor unit and provides placement and transportation of power unit control and monitoring system power supply braids.
The unit electrical equipment consists of 150 power supply braids from 6 to 16 meters long, connecting the electrical connectors of the reactorХs top to the concrete reactor vessel. These are the braids of the reactor control and safety system electromagnet block, the motion sensors, the leakage detector, the in-core monitoring, and the vibration transducers.
Electrical connection block is one of the major components of the reactor plant that provides normal operation of VVE-1200, and by the nature of the control functions also qualifies as NPP safety-related component.
The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each. Also, pursuant to the NPP-2006 project, 1,2 VVER-1200 power blocks included into The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM long-term plan are being constructed. Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is the owner and developer of the project. Holding TITAN-2 is the primary contractor. ATOMPROEKT is the general designer.
