Leningrad NPP: Vietnam counts on help of the Russian side in training for new nuclear power stations

The Leningrad NPP was visited by the delegation from Vietnam on October 26, 2015. This is not the first meeting, the guests from the distant Vietnam have met for the third time. Such keen interest in the project has been caused by the desire to explore the experience of Russian colleagues in matters of construction of nuclear power plants beyond the project "NPP-2006".

"The main quality chosen for the construction of the first Vietnamese NPP are safety, reliability and efficiency, - said the first Deputy Director for construction of new power units of the Leningrad NPP Yuri Galanchuk at the presentation. - The draft takes into account not only Russian^ but also international standards and recommendations of the IAEA and the additional requirements that have been emerged from the analysis of the accident at the nuclear power plant "Fukushima".

During the meeting Yury Fedorovich also pointed out how important it is to prepare future nuclear power plant personnel in advance. Firstly, they can effectively participate at the stage of construction of the power units, providing control over the construction, installation and commissioning works, so it was at the Leningrad NPP, and then take over the management of complex processes, knowing the station to the smallest detail.

During the visit Vietnamese specialists acquainted not only with the specific project, but also with the progress of construction of the Leningrad NPP replacement capacity, visiting the main sites of the first unit.

"We have been amazed at the extent of what we have seen and how things have been done in the construction of new power units of the Leningrad NPP, - summed up the meeting Nguyen Hung, the Deputy Director for science, education, culture and social policy of the Government of the Republic of Vietnam. - Our country is also on the threshold of the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Ninh Thuan province, and our visit here is an important and rewarding experience. We understand, that successful implementation of the task will require preparation of a large number of qualified construction and operating personnel for nuclear power plants and in this regard we also count on the assistance of the Russian side."

The Leningrad nuclear power plant is the JSC "Rosenergoatom Concern" branch. The station is located in the city Sosnovy Bor in 80 km to the west of St. Petersburg on the bank of the Finland Gulf. The Leningrad NPP is the country's first station with RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium - graphite nuclear reactors of channel type on thermal neutrons). 4 power units with electric capacity of 1000 MWt each operate at the nuclear power plant. Also the construction of first and second VVER-1200 beyond the project "NPP-2006" is being conducted, which are included in long-term activities program of the State Corporation "Rosatom". Customer-developer of the project is the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". General contractor is the JSC "CONCERN TITAN-2". General designer is the JSC "ATOMPROEKT."
