Leningrad NPP: Russian and Finnish atomists have exchanged their experience in the field of safety culture

From April 12 to 14 a three-day Russian-Finnish seminar on the topic of safety culture was held at Leningrad NPP. The event became the continuation of the seminar with the similar topic held in Finland in the end of March.

Specialists of Finnish companies - STUK - Project Manager Jouko Mononen, and TVO Р Specialists Petri Koistinen and Saku Latokartano took part in the seminar on the Finnish part. Leningrad NPP was represented by Deputy Chief Engineer of Educational and Training Center V. M. Slonimsky, Deputy Head of Educational and Training Center A. I. Moskvin, Head of Psychophysiological Examination Laboratory N. V. Voskresenskaya, Head of the Department of Educational and Training Center for Operation Personnel Training S. B. Mitrofanov, and Safety Instructor V. A. Mokrousov.

In their reports the participants discussed the human factor influence over nuclear plants safety culture, the methods of safety culture estimation, as well as the development of safety culture at the power units under construction. ТRussian atomists highly estimate the state of safety culture organized at Finnish nuclear plants, both at the operating ones and at those being constructed. We can gain much useful experience from our Finnish colleagues,У Deputy Head of Educational and Training Center A. I. Moskvin said.

ТThe experience exchange in the field of safety culture at the power units under construction was especially interestingУ, LNPP-2 Chief Inspector S. V. Efimenko noted. Russian atomists got the general information of safety culture organization at Finnish nuclear construction sites during their visit to the construction site of Olkiluoto-3 Finnish NPP in March.

The Finnish party, in its turn, was more interested in the issues of personnel training in the field of safety culture. ТThe issues of safety culture is a new topic of our collaboration, that appeared last year and became the main one for this yearУ, STUK Project Manager Jouko Mononen said, noting, that with development of the project of Olkiluoto-3 power unit being constructed, the term Тsafety cultureУ itself required discussion and the explanation of what it is. ТWe have developed new methods of training in this field: in what way safety culture should be introduced to the employees constructing new power units, as well as to nuclear plants equipment producersУ, J. Mononen reported.

The seminar ended with Finnish atomistsХ introducing visits to LNPP operating power unit and LNPP-2 construction site.
