Kursk NPP: ecological voluntary area cleaning has been held

An ecological voluntary cleaning of the cooling pond coastland was held at Kursk NPP within the framework of the Day of Protection Against Environmental Hazards on April 29, 2011. More than 200 employees of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC branch Kursk nuclear plant Р representatives of the enterprise structural subdivisions - participated in the event.

Opening the event, Chairman of the plant primary trade union organization Gennady Polkhov noted: ТToday voluntary cleaning is devoted to the Day of Protection Against Environmental Hazards. It is pleasant that the event has become a traditional one, and with each year the number of participants is growing. Environmental protection is one of the main priorities of our enterpriseУ.

The atomists took away the rubbish at Kurchatov cooling pond coastland and in the area of the flanking dike shoreline Р a unique industrial reserve on the territory of Kursk region. All the work was completed hand in hand by six groups of Kursk nuclear plant personnel.

Technician of Environmental Protection Department Milena Panshina expressed the voluntary cleaning participantsХ common opinion: ТThe events of the kind are of vital importance, actually the environment is the air we breathe and the water we drink, that is why it is important to understand the significance of nature and value it. While organizing such voluntary cleanings, Kursk NPP management pays much attention to ecology. Besides, this contributes to the staff unifying, because the air of fellowship and involvement into a great business is revealed in the joint full-scale events of the kindУ.

At present Kursk NPP operates power units Nos. 1, 3 and 4. The actual capacity corresponds to the dispatch schedule. Power unit No. 2 is in major scheduled repair.

The radiation background at Kursk NPP industrial site and its location corresponds to the set standards and does not exceed the natural background values.
