Kursk NPP: Task Group of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC Assesses Preparedness of Kursk NPP for Complex Emergency Response Exercises-2012

On August 16, 2012 Kursk NPP hosted a meeting of the task group of Rosenergoatom Concern to prepare a complex emergency response exercise (KPU-2012).

The exercise is to be carried out on October 3-5 of the current year at the nuclear power plant and in the city of Kurchatov involving the team for emergency assistance to nuclear power plants (OPAS), and forces and means of the interested ministries and departments.

Under the guidance of Director for Production and Operation of Nuclear Power Plants Р Director of the Department of Emergency Preparedness and Radiation Protection of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, Vladimir Khlebtsevich, there was reviewed the preparedness of facilities, vehicles and staff at the places of dislocation of forces and means involved in the exercise.

Then, the reports of the participants on the progress of the preparatory works were listened at the meeting.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of Kurchatov city Administration, Head Office of EMERCOM of Russia in the Kursk region, Directorate for Civil Defense and Emergencies of Kurchatov, Novovoronezh branch of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise ТEmergency and Technical Centre of Minatom of RussiaУ, and other services and organizations.

By the results of the work it was noted that the preparation for the training has been conducted in accordance with the scheduled plans.

Next tasks of preparation to KPU-2012 have been scheduled by the minutes of the meeting.

During the complex emergency response exercise (KPU-2012), there will be worked out the preparedness to act at the conditional technological and radiation accident at the nuclear power plant. Also the worked out will be the practical skills of Kursk NPP staff in implementation of measures on organization and carrying out of works on localization and elimination of emergency situations including sheltering in protective buildings and evacuation of the plantХs staff. There is also expected a partial random evacuation of the population of the 5 km zone.  

At the present time, Kursk NPP operates the power units No.1, 2, 3, 4. The units work at the capacity rated by the dispatch schedule.

The radiation background in the area of Kursk NPP and the adjacent territory corresponds to the level of power unitsХ normal operation and does not exceed the natural environmental values.
