Kolsk NPP: nuclear power specialists from Armenia have studies the best practices on maintenance at the transpolar nuclear power plant

The teams of the Kolsk NPP and the Armenian NPP* have exchanged their best practices on safety culture enhancements during the maintenance. The negotiations took place as a part of the visit organized under the auspices of the World Association of Nuclear Operations on March 13-19, 2016. The only nuclear power plant in Armenia utilizes VVER-440 reactor units, just as the Kolsk NPP does.

According to Armen Arshakyan, Armenian NPP Deputy Head of centralized repair workshop, lots of great practices were discovered starting from Day 1. ТBeing a maintenance engineer, I was interested to see how the equipment is being upgraded. We have already identified a couple of things we can implement at our plant, too, specifically Р their approach towards equipment tagging. We really admire the way the operations are organized here, especially the job order systems, and are planning to deploy it at our nuclear power plant shortly, tooУ.

During the visit the Armenian NPP specialists have visited the recently constructed Education center designed for maintenance personnel training.

*The Armenian NPP was constructed in the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic out of Metsamor and launched in December 1976. The plant consists of two power blocks with VVER-440 reactor units, the power block No.1 having been stopped in 1989. The heat output of one block is 1375 megawatt with the electric output of 440 megawatt.

The Kolsk NPP is an affiliate of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC and is based 200 km to the south from the city of Murmansk, at the Imandra lakeside. The plant produces around 60% of the Murmansk Region electric power. It has 4 operational power blocks with VVER-type reactors, each of them having capacity of 440 megawatt. The Kolsk NPP supplies electric power to the Murmansk Region and Karelia.
