Kola NPP: with care to nature

On June 4, 2011 Kola NPP employees conducted an ecological territory cleaning*, dedicated to the World Day of Environmental Protection and the International Day of Water BodiesХ Cleaning. More than 40 people took part in the action, by the most conservative estimate 17 tip-trucks with household rubbish, which had junked northern forests and lakes, were taken to the dump.

According to the tradition the cleaning start was given by Plant Director Vasily Omelchuk personally. The plant employees went to the cleaning of the territories of the discharge channel, the bank line and forestland adjacent to ТKolaУ federal route near Kola nuclear plant location.

ТThis year we have significantly widened the cleaning territoryУ, Vasily Omelchuk noted. ТThe cleaning was held not only near the nuclear plant but also inside the city line and in the nearby reservoirs. The fact, that appeal to the city forming enterprise to perform the cleaning was supported by the most citizens and also by the city institutions and organizations, was a pleasant one. Owing to such an active participation our city became as clean as it had never been beforeУ.

The workers of all the NPPХs subdivisions, specialists of contracting organizations, the administration of municipal education, representatives of communal department, individual entrepreneurs and common citizens took part in the voluntary action, organized by the nuclear plant.

The gathered people took into order the forest territory near the mountain skiing complex and ТKolaУ federal route. They also prepared the sand beaches at Imandra Lake, which attracts Polyarnye Zori citizens, for the summer season of active rest.

ТThis tradition has been not only living for the sixth year Р it is being also actively developed, and it has to be supported further, and the cleanings should be performed more oftenУ, Chairman of Murmansk Regional Duma Evgeny Nikora, who also took part in the cleaning, said.

In the city line the action participants were tidying up the territory near the Niva River bridge, in the forest a stream near the preventorium of Kola NPP was cleaned. For the first time the cleaning had been performed at Niva HPP-1 water area: here the plant youth active participants together with the representatives of the principal departments were cleaning the trash which had been accumulated for years. Also redevelopment of the territory of the former motordrome and small natural reservoirs near the railway was held. The territory near the city elevated road and electric power substation No. 66 was cleaned as well.
