Kola NPP: turbine generator TG-7 of the 4th Kola NPP power unit has been shut down

On February 11, at 10:19, the TG-7 turbine generator of the 4th Kola NPP power unit was shut down by emergency control system. The cause is being found out. The power unit No.4 capacity is reduced by 50%. 

This event is preliminary classified as a zero level (below - scale) event by the International Nuclear Events Scale (INES), i.e. has no impact on the plant and the personnel safety. 

At present, all the four Kola NPP power units having total capacity of 1,350 MW are in operation. No violations of limits and conditions of safe operation of Kola NPP power units are detected. 

The radiation background at Kalinin NPP industrial site and in the adjacent territory is not changed and corresponds to the natural environmental values.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. Kola NPP supplies 60% of Murmansk region power. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 mW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
