Kola NPP: Effective Operational Support

he technical support mission* of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) has conducted a work at Kola NPP from October 30 to November 1. The topic of the mission was the issue of formation of the effective engineering operation support service.

Taken part in the work of the mission were the representatives of WANO Moscow Centre: Georgi Raspopin and Vyacheslav Shvarov, the Centre Advisors, as well as specialists of foreign nuclear power plants, Rosman Hodul (Bohunice NPP, Slovakia) and Larisa Turansky (Paks NPP, Hungary).

The mission participants acquainted Kola NPP specialists with the procedure of organization of the process of interaction with engineering services at foreign nuclear power plants of WANO Moscow Centre.  

Conducting such technical support missions is one of the most effective programs of the World Association of Nuclear Operators, which contributes to the safety improving and operation reliability of nuclear power plants.

ТWe have another opportunity to learn the examples of good utility practices,У noted the deputy chief engineer. ТAnd now we have to implement the recommendations received from the technical support mission, which undoubtedly will have a good impact on the general safety level of the nuclear power plant.У

*WANO technical support missions are conducted at nuclear power plants of the Russian Federation annually. Traditionally they are held by the experts of the World AssociationХs Moscow Centre. The purpose of these missions is assistance to nuclear power plants in those issues, which they are unable to solve independently.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. It produces about 60% of electricity of Murmansk region. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 MW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
