Kola NPP has tested new mobile diesel generating sets

Four new mobile diesel generating sets with capacity of 200 kWh have been received and successfully tested by specialists at Kola NPP.

This is a back-up equipment, which is supplied to all operating nuclear power plants under the implementation of a program of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, carried out according to the results of stress-tests.

After the accident at Fukushima NPP, an issue of supplying Russian NPPs with special equipment for the case of hypothetic beyond-design-basis accidents was reviewed by the Government, and there was made an appropriate decision about special equipment supply to nuclear power plants.

On March 21 specialists of Kola NPP tested new mobile diesel-generators in idle run. Test run of the equipment has passed successfully.

In the near future it is expected to receive three more diesel generating sets with capacity of 2 MW.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. Produces about 60% of electricity of Murmansk region. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 mW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
