Kola NPP has passed environmental management system audit

Kola NPP again proved compliance of its environmental management system to the requirements of GOST R ISO 14001-2007 Р the national version of the international standard ISO 14001-2004.

Such a conclusion was made by the expert committee according to the results of surveillance audit of the environmental management system (EMS), held at the nuclear power plant on April 2-6, 2012 by the experts of the international certification body DQS under supervision of the independent expert from ARINO OJSC (All-Russian Research Institute for NPP Operation OJSC).

The audit showed that the front office of Kola NPP always attached great importance to the issues of ecology and environment protection. ТThe environmental management system, declared in accordance with the policy of Rosenergoatom Concern, is, first of all, a tool for monitoring and management of the environment protection activity. It allows to make this activity transparent, making it equally clear to employees, heads, public and supervisory bodies,У noted Igor Marakulin, a Deputy Chief Engineer for safety and reliability of Kola NPP Р special representative of the front office in the environmental management system.

The results of the surveillance audit proved that the front office and experts of Kola nuclear power plant, a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern, were aimed at improvement of EMS, implementation of measures on process optimization, reducing the negative impact on the environment and ensuring requirements of the environmental safety.

Next year the plant will have to undergo the procedure of EMS re-certification. The international standard ISO 14001 is an indicator of high level of social responsibility and competent environmental policy of the enterprise, which complies with the international level.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. Produces about 60% of electricity of Murmansk region. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 mW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
